In the past, getting a broken or decayed tooth repaired with a crown was a big hassle for a patient. They typically needed to make multiple trips to the dentist’s office, have a messy impression taken, and spend a week with an unreliable temporary dental crown while their final one was being made.
At Tindal Prosthodontics, this simply isn’t good enough for our patients, so we have invested in CEREC technology. This system uses advanced CAD/CAM software, and with it, Dr. Tindal can design, fabricate, and mill a completely custom-made dental crown in just one appointment. It’s able to deliver the same results as a lab-made crown in just a fraction of the time so patients can get back to their lives as quickly as possible.
CEREC stands for “chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics.” Using a small, handheld scanner, Dr. Tindal captures hundreds of images of your mouth, including the tooth in need of a dental crown, then sends this data to a nearby computer. From there, the scan is recompiled into a detailed 3D image. This can be used to design your permanent restoration entirely in our office!
Using a 3D imaging software to capture impressions of your mouth also allows Dr. Tindal to make subtle adjustments to the design of your crown before it is fabricated. This reduces the risk of human error and gives us additional time to craft the perfect restoration. Your crown is also color-matched to blend in with existing teeth, ensuring only you and our office know you had a crown placed!
There are many benefits to consider when choosing CEREC crowns over traditionally made restorations. For example:
